So we have a chipmunk problem in our basement. Last month, we found a hole they were coming in through and plugged it up. Around the same time, Asa wanted his desk moved from the basement to upstairs. He pulled out a drawer and two chipmunks hopped out. Hilarity ensued.

Anyway, we vacated those two and I decided we were in the clear. Nole was not as convinced. He said he heard crawling noises in the basement ceiling. Yesterday, he was vindicated when he saw a chipmunk . He went down there with Cal and they caught it in a coffee can. When Cal went to release it, it crawled on his shoulder and head (ahhh!).
About an hour later I see Cal out front and apparently talking to himself and reenacting the chipmunk scene. Turns out he wasn’t as crazy as I thought, he was actually crazier. He and Asa were playing with the chipmunk who is now somehow domesticated. It was letting them feed it acorns, pet it and hold it.

They named it Peanut and begged me to let them keep it. I was open to the idea but Nole vetoed it. Luckily, Squirrel Nutkin (my name for him) is missing most of his tail so the kids will recognize him if he comes back to visit.
