We had a small problem booking our flights home. I booked 2 flights home on United using my points and paid for a third. The flight went through Poland and only had a 3-hour layover. My plan was to pay with Nole’s United card so he could would get points for the purchase and then after the points posted, buy the other three tickets. Problem was, once his points posted, the flight I was on was sold out and the other flights in our point range were 24hr+ long with multiple stops and long layovers.
Nole spent about an hour entering different airports on United’s website and just as we were about to give up for the day, he found something as scarce as hen’s teeth–a low point DIRECT flight to Chicago.
The catch? It flew out of Edinburgh, UK. We snatched it up and changed the flights I bought to that one (we did have to pay a change fee but a direct flight was worth it!). So now our plans include a week-long tour of the UK at the end of our trip. We will spend 2 nights in London (including a little trip to Stonehenge??), 2 nights in Inverness, and 2 nights in Edinburgh. I think I almost have Nole convinced travel-hacking is worth it. Almost.
Bonus: Those who know me well know I love the Outlander series of books. We plan to do an Outlander Tour while in Inverness and to visit Loch Ness.
