Asa’s day out

Asa wanted to go skiing for his 1:1 mom time. I was excited about this plan because I’ve been trying to get one of the kids to ski with me for at least 4 years with no luck. I started skiing when I was 5.

Tonight was my night off of work and the conditions were perfect for learning (45 degrees so the slopes would slow and sticky and the temperature tolerable). Plus with the warm up later this week, I knew this might be our last chance to ski this season.

My first surprise was that even though I haven’t skied since high school, I was still pretty good at it. My second surprise was that although I can’t say I have ever had a knee pain in my life, my knees reminded me I’m not in high school anymore frequently tonight.

Asa and I went to Little Switzerland for the Learn to Turn package they offer. It included lift tickets, rentals and a lesson. The lesson started at 6pm and since we arrived at 4 that meant we had some time to practice first. Asa did so well!

After I showed him the basics on our first and second run down the bunny hill, he made it down without falling on his third try and was going down alone while I waited at the bottom on his sixth try.

After his lesson, we tried out the other easy runs and rode the chairlift which is an adventure all it’s own. We spent about 4 hours skiing in total.

On the way home, we stopped at Meijer to buy some Maruchan (his new favorite). It was really fun spending time with Asa and being reminded what a unique soul he is.
