Evening walk along the Ill River

I really wanted to go see Petite France (Little France) after hearing that it was named after a syphilis epidemic on our audio tour earlier. I also wanted to see the Barrage Vauban which was a fortified bridge that was built to protect the city. Apparently it could flood part of the city as a defensive maneuver. Barrage pictured below:

A cotton tree was blooming hence the “snow” in the pictures.

Cal and Asa “air-bending”

We got turned around after leaving the barrage so we never made it to Petite France. We will have to try that again another day.

On the way home Esme saw a giant meringue in a shop window and after we told her it was basically baked frosting, she wanted to try one.

She liked it. She loves the French bread here. She so far did not like the salami we bought or any of the cereals (we bought Kellogg’s brand but they taste different). I have the feeling she will come around on some of the foods but for now she is sticking to bread, ramen and cucumbers mostly.
