The Orangery

The city of Strasbourg was gifted 140 orange trees after the revolution. The Orangery is a park that was constructed to house them. Now there are only four orange trees left.We took the tram, but first we bought a 10 pack of tram tickets each. It reduces the cost of the tickets by about half.

Lots and lots of storks at the Orangery. Probably over 100. They were all busy nest building. Then we found this playground which Nova said she “wished were a little safer”, ha ha! Nova also said she met a French girl but she didn’t know what she was saying so she didn’t say anything back to her.

The Orangery had a little free zoo. They rehabilitate storks here too. If you look closely at the stork picture below, you can see an egg!

Then we went to McDonald’s to try and get some protein in Esme since her diet is somewhat lacking here. I went next door to a bakery for a tomato mozzarella sandwich instead.

My mom’s salad. They have limited salad choices at McDonald’s here. This one had fried goat cheese patties on top and “Manhattan sauce”. Then we went back to Kibitzenau pool. Before we left, I bought European style swimsuits for the boys since I knew they were particular about that at pools here. No board shorts or even normal loose short style swim trunks. Cal’s didn’t fit right so we picked some new ones up for him in Kehl the other day. I heard they didn’t worry too much about what women wear but they stopped my mom before she got in the pool and told her that her swimsuit with shorts would not do. They do sell swimsuits in a vending machine in the lobby but they were pretty expensive for something she would probably never wear again. She sat out but was only allowed in the pool area if she kept her “shorts” covered with her towel.

The funny thing is, besides the swimwear rules, they’re pretty rule-free here. There are no signs staying the rules and regulations like at US pools. Kids were runny (and slipping and falling) all over the place and they didn’t seem to mind horseplay. The kids burned off some energy and we made it back to the Airbnb between rain storms.

  1. Love your blog, feel like I am there! Pretty small looking salad if you ask me, what will Esme eat there? Grandma you are blessed!
