Moo.

Cal and I went for a quick walk after dinner. It has rained off and on today and every time we got our shoes on to go out, it was starting to rain again. We decided to just walk in the rain after several failed attempts.

The little village we are staying in is to the right down the road. We went that way to visit Marie and her family yesterday. Today we went left.

Lupine flower?

We walked down a little path for a while but the grass was pretty tall and Cal is scared of nettle after Asa and Nova both got stings since we got here.

Nettle is just about everywhere we have been so far. I’ve never seen so much in my life. It makes you think twice before taking a romp in the yard or along a road or even at a zoo (where Asa got stung). Luckily, I know the antidote (plantain leaves in a poultice) and that grows everywhere here too!

On our way back we passed a farm with cows. All the cows we have seen so far have been white. The kids kept thinking they were pigs or sheep from far away (we don’t see many white cows at home). Cows here seem to have large pastures to roam. The cows came right up to the edge of their pasture as we were passing them. They seemed to wanted to check us out. We hope to see a farm later this week. Marie is going to try and arrange it.

Anyone know the breed name and if they are dairy or meat livestock?

  1. The Charolais is a breed of taurine beef cattle from the Charolais area surrounding Charolles, in Burgundy, in eastern France. Charolais are raised for meat; they may be crossed with other breeds, including Angus and Hereford cattle.
