Look at that “S” car go

We had plans to visit a strawberry u-pick today but it was a little chilly out and gray. Plus we still have strawberries from the market yesterday. So we went on a walk to Marie’s grandma’s house to see her chickens and collect eggs. Her grandfather collects farm implements in his own personal museum.

See farm implement museum on the left of this picture.

Next we walked to Marie’s mom’s house to visit with her chickens. She has three little chicks which were really cute. She also had 4 kittens. Seeing and holding the kittens was the highlight of the kids’ day.

The kids love Marie’s children and especially love playing with her baby. Asa loves babies and babies love Asa.

This afternoon we went to the grocery store for a baguette and some treats. Then we went to a playground not too far from Marie’s house.

We didn’t stay long because it was kind of cold. We saw some snails near our parking spot when we returned back to the house. Turns out these are the very snails they use for escargot!

We made teriyaki chicken for Marie and her family. It wasn’t necessarily American but it’s Asa’s favorite dish. We found soja douce (sweet soy) sauce at the store which looked to be basically what I would make for teriyaki sauce and it was spot on. We made it earlier in the day (Asa likes it better when it can sit in the sauce for a while) and ate it around 6pm (American dinner time).

The kids helped cook and prepare the meal.

Marie brought over escargot from her grandmother’s house (she collects the snails from her garden, prepares them and freezes them).

This was Cal’s “before” face. They look like you would expect them to on the inside and the texture isn’t something we are used to but they tasted good. Cal and I had two each.

After dinner we had donuts we bought at the supermarket and our hosts headed back to their other house to put the kids to bed.

We went on a walk to see the cows and they did not disappoint. They were on the other side of the pasture but they came over to see us when we called to them.

  1. I’m glad you both tried escargot and liked them. I’m not sure I would have tried it. What was the green stuff on them?
