“Oh bother, what’s happened to Piglet?”

Today we planned to take the bus in from the suburbs like yesterday but the bus doesn’t run often on weekends out here so we opted for the car again, leaving it at a bus/metro terminal on the edge of the city and then using public transportation.

We took the metro into Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) and walked around there a bit. There was a vendor fair/market happening with live music so we hung out a bit. Cal spotted Piglet for sale…

I bought a tote bag and a wooden French regions puzzle.

They had free stuff for kids like balloons, animals, face painting, and … baby foot!

The kids playing foosball with Cal and Asa were French and spoke English. They have traveled to America 3 times according to the boys.

The square where the market was also had a cathedral. (Cathédrale Saint-Jean Baptiste)

Asa and Cal chose to breathe in their helium but as you will see we brought Esme and Nova’s balloons all over Lyon with us.

We took a funicular up to the Basilica where Marie told us we might see Mont Blanc.

We went inside but left right away because the balloons seemed inappropriate once we got inside, oops!

Here is the view. You can see Mont Blanc just to the left of the tall buildings if you look closely.

They had a 3D map of the city like we saw in Strasbourg.

I wanted to walk down but was vetoed and we ended up taking the funicular again. We discussed our plans for the rest of the day and decided to see the Tête d’Or park that Marie recommended and then head back to the Airbnb to swim.

Back to the metro…

Tête d’Or is the largest urban park in France. It has free botanical gardens and a small free zoo within it. First we looked at the botanical gardens.

Esme decided to stand outside of the cactus area with the balloons just to be safe.

Then the zoo.

Then the kids wanted to go so we went through more of the botanical gardens on our way to the bus.

The boys checking out the stop schedule on the bus to see which stop we need. To say they love public transportation would be an overstatement but they do like helping to find our route.

We stopped for groceries since we will be staying in a rural place starting tomorrow. We wanted to be sure to get the hard to find favorites we have found (Unicorn Froot Loops and Knack sausages among them) since small towns usually have small grocery stores.

The kids hit the pool at the Airbnb and we will be making dinner here tonight.
