To the “Bloodthirsty” Islands

Today we went to the Iles Sanguinaire which translates to Bloodthirsty Islands. First we stopped at a place to eat lunch and unfortunately their credit card reader was broken. We found this out as our food arrived and I only had 15€ on me. The owner let me bring the money back later.

Then we drove to the dock and arrived at 1:05pm and the boats depart on the hour so we explored the beach a bit. There was a rock pool just off the shore and Asa knew right away that he wanted to walk out to it. The other kids followed. Well not Nova. She stayed on the shore.

The rock pool.

The little mermaid.

There were some interesting life forms in the rock pool. There was sea grass and seaweed, sponges, anemones, snails, mussels, and limpets.

This red blob is a sea tomato which is an anemone. It opens up with tentacles at night. Watch out! They sting!

The above picture is the center of the rock pool (underwater).

The beach was covered in dry seaweed and these seed husks which looked like they came from a palm. They also looked like warthog tails.

Before we knew it, it was time to board the boat. It was a 15 minute ride to the island.

The island doesn’t have any residents or vehicles on it. It does have a couple of buildings.

The path to the lighthouse. We took this all the way up.

Our boat leaving. They come back once an hour to catch a ride back to Corsica.

The stones you see are the ruins of a slave quarantine area.

The seagulls here have a lower voice than the ones we have seen in the US.

The view was amazing!

Further up we found a little bird graveyard. Nova and Esme liked collecting the bones while the boys went closer to the edge than I would have liked…

We finally made it to the top.

By this time everyone was hot and we were ready for a nap.

So down we went, back to meet the boat.

Spot the bird family.

Nova checking out her bones on the boat ride back.

Cal spotted jellyfish in the water!

The water was almost an unnatural shade of blue.

We went back to the apartment and set to eating all the things we don’t want to carry. Oh, one more picture. Asa spotted this sign that said “asanova”. Of course it really says Casanova but it was still cool!
