The one where Asa threw up in the car and a goat peed on my foot

Thursday, June 21.

Our réveille came at 5:45 am on the ferry. This was great because it meant I could catch the sunrise.

Not great was waking up kids who insisted on staying way too late at the playland on the ship.

Good news is we had plenty of time to get from the ferry to the train station (where we were to pick up our rental car). It was a beautiful morning out and we walked until we found a bus stop and got on in the direction of the railway station. Our bags were easy to handle but we were not up for a 20 minute walk so the bus was a win.

I like our new car. It’s similar to the one we had in Corsica but it’s easy to drive. One new thing is it has lane assist. It steers you back towards the center if you get too close to the line. I hated it and turned it off as soon as I figured out how. This one is a Kia. The car on Corisca was a Peugeot and the one before was a Citroën. Peugeot and Citroën are both French brands.

The McDonald’s we stopped at was fairly new. This was inside the bathroom. They don’t appear to have as many hang ups as most Americans when it comes to bathrooms. This is a unisex bathroom. In the common area (i.e. unlocked) is the urinal and the sink. There are two stalls with toilets that lock.

We drove for a little over 5 hours today. We stopped for lunch, one bathroom break, and one goûter (snack). After our goûter stop we had about half an hour left.

Too bad it was basically scaling the Pyrenees (local mountain range). Asa felt car sick, then announced he had to throw up. I had no room to pull over so he puked on the floor. Not fun. Cal almost joined him thanks to his sensitive sense of smell. I cleaned it up the best I could with the limited supplies I had at the closest pull-off spot and we made our way to the nearest grocery store to clean the rest up. I bought a bottle of carpet cleaner and a brush. I did what I could today but will do more tomorrow. Also it’s raining here now but the car definitely has some airing out to do tomorrow.

The mountains of France. We have seen all but two.

From there it was just a minute to our new hosts’ house. Alizée, Lionel and their two kids welcomed us with dinner and a tour of their yard. They have three dogs, two cats, two goats and two ponies. It was during this tour that the goat peed on my shoe. No harm done; we rinsed it off and it should dry by tomorrow.

Nova with their very sweet Jack Russell. They also have two big dogs one is a Australian cattle dog mix and the other, her son is mixed with a Great Pyrenees.

You know you’re in the mountains when you’re above the clouds.

Here you see the offending subject.

Asa, recovered and showered, rests with their cat Gimli.
