Apparently the American style is deep fried! I don’t completely disagree but I’m starting to find out why they think our diet is so bad in the US.
Well the heat wave continues. It was about 91 today and the same is expected for tommorow. Saturday might reach 100 degrees. Then it’s back to normal starting Sunday. This morning I walked to the bakery for pain au chocolat and baguettes. We ate those around 10 am and then I took a nap because, you know, I had been up for almost 2 hours already. Actually I had a bit of a headache, I think from the heat and not drinking enough. After my nap I felt better and Cal and I walked to Lidl to check out their “American Week”. Some interesting finds were lots of things (chips etc) flavored with curry which I actually don’t see a lot at home, frozen donuts, “American style” ice cream which makes me wonder what we have been eating since we got here, Tex Mex flavored bacon…the list goes on. But there were some very authentic American things to be found. We bought regular bacon, maple syrup, and supplies to make pancakes. We also bought hot dog buns and we decided on the Knack sausages rather than the jarred hot dogs they were selling for American week. We had them for lunch.
Warning: if you ever buy buns in France meant for hot dogs or hamburgers, be prepared for stale buns. But hey, they worked and it’s been so long since we had them, the kids didn’t care.
We also got some of our staples here. We have fallen in love with chocolate covered rice cakes. What’s not to love? These seem to be mainly consumed for goûter (aka afternoon snack for those who haven’t been following). We try to save them for goûter but they have a way of disappearing before then. Anyway, after shopping and eating lunch we were going to go check out the river but it was pretty hot out so we decided to do that later. I took the kids bowling, along with Kirstin and Nolwennig’s oldest son. I had the idea to go bowling. After all, there would be air conditioning there (most French homes do not have air conditioning). Nope.

It was just slightly cooler than outside but the kids still had a great time.

I really liked the bowling helpers they had. You set the ball on the top and the pull the bike brake to release it. It would have been nice to have the kind you push too but the kids liked the novelty of it.

They had podiums and the kids wanted a picture showing their rankings only Nova wouldn’t cooperate. (She was in last place.)

Then we went to E.Leclerc (another grocery store/department store) for shampoo and conditioner. Gladly, we were running low and hadn’t lost them for the third time!

In defense of Wisconsin the kids detest all other dairy advertising.
We had pizza from the place next door in order to avoid heating the house up more. They had many choices of pizza there. One of the ones I ordered had cheese, lardon (i.e. cut up bacon) and potatoes. In the end we didn’t go to the river because everyone was happy playing at home and we have a big day planned for tomorrow.

Esme and Nova built this Duplo zoo.

Some art by Cal.
We are in bed now. Cal plans to wake up at 5 am for the release of Mario Maker 2. In parting tonight, I offer you the picture on our bedroom door here in Argentan.
