Argentan

Today we stayed at Kirstin and Nolwennig’s house to play at home and welcome other unschoolers.I made American pancakes for everyone this morning. The bacon from Lidl was honey-cured and it burned really easily but it still tasted good.By the time we finished eating breakfast it was almost 1pm. A couple of days ago we bought water balloons and I told Asa we could have a water balloon fight Saturday morning. They were the kind that fill 20 or so at a time. Totally worth every penny.

Friends arrived shortly after that. Two families with younger kids came and endured the heat with us. Both had toddlers and I had fun playing with the 14 month old boy. Babies that age don’t need language to play. He doesn’t hear me speak English and think “I don’t understand that” because he doesn’t understand most of what is said around him. He reads body language and facial expressions. In play, he mimics and watches to see my reaction when he does something new. It’s obvious why it’s so easy for kids to learn second languages when they start at that age. We shared goûter, then ice cream, and eventually dinner of pizza from the place next door again.

Nova and I found some kittens with a mother cat under the bushes in their yard. We didn’t want to get too close and upset the mom.

Kirstin and Nolwennig have Legos out for the kids to play with. All of my kids love creating with Legos and they spent a lot of time at their Lego table during our stay here.

I played some piano tonight and we had a little sing-along. Now the kids are in the bath in an attempt to cool off before bed. It’s 11:40pm and the hot air that was blowing through the window all evening has finally turned to a cool breeze. We are saying goodbye to the family tonight before we go to bed since they will be asleep when we leave tomorrow morning. I hope we get to see them again but if not we can keep in touch through our blogs. Kirstin’s blog is http://vivreenfamille.org and she writes about unschooling in France and more.
