Back to life, back to reality

Yesterday we all woke up at 5am again. What to do when you get up that early for no reason? Work in the garden of course. With the heat and humidity we figured it was good to do what we could before it got too hot.

We built this vegetable garden when we first moved in. The problem is we don’t get a lot of sun here and also I lose interest by about mid-July every year and everything ends up going to seed. So we transplanted some of the bricks and dirt and all of my asparagus to a new, much smaller home next to the quail coop. This will be a lot easier to maintain. The nice thing about asparagus is it’s done by the time it gets hot out and it’s perennial.

Nova came out to help us and to play with all the creatures that went running once we started disturbing the dirt. We also let the cats out for some play time and they really liked sniffing and digging in the freshly turned soil.

I want to built a small shed in this place once all the dirt is gone (free topsoil if anyone wants it!). The cats prefer to be outside or have outside access but Mabel kept bringing in live chipmunks (sometimes up to 3 per day!) when we gave them a cat door. My idea is to build an insulated shed with food, water, and shelter as a summer home for the cats.

After 4 hours in the garden, I met my bestie Limor for lunch and a walk around Target. It was great seeing her after 3 months and I can’t wait to see her kids later this week. The kids and I are all looking forward to catching up with our friends now that we are back.

So now it’s 6am on Monday. I’ve been up or a couple of hours already despite staying up late last night to try and reset my internal clock. I go back to work today and I’m not sure how much time I will have to blog during the week. I do still have some “final thoughts” on our trip I want to post like what we missed most, our favorite things we saw etc and I think every weekend I’ll post an update of what we did but I think this might be the last daily post for a while. Thank you to everyone who followed along on our trip. It felt like you were there with us! It was hard work posting every day but I’m glad I did it.
