Leprechaun Day with a side of Coronavirus avoidance

The kids love preparing for the leprechaun to come. This is not something that was on my radar as a kid but you know, #zoomers (Cal tells me that this is a nickname for Gen Z kids).

In the past, the kids have just built traps. Basically you try and trick a leprechaun and trap it so he can lead you to his gold. They have built many traps over the years. At first they were sweet rainbowed inventions, usually involving a trap door. See their early example below:

Over the years things got a bit dark…

Asa’s trap last year involved poisoning the leprechaun. This is the next morning where you can see the leprechaun threw up in the corner.

Cal’s trap two years ago involved a spinning saw blade (his entire contraption was made of cardboard). I wish I had a picture of that one.

Anyway, I was glad to hear the girls decide to make an enticing house for the leprechaun this year rather than trying to trap him (and kill him). This is what they came up with.

This morning, they awoke to festive shirts and socks and a couple of small treats.

Notice the rainbow in her hair from our suncatcher!

We are restricting social contact and staying home for the next few weeks. The last time the kids were out of the house was Thursday so they’re getting a little stir crazy. Nole and I decided that because of my work (I’m a nurse at a nursing home), we better isolate ourselves as much as possible to protect my patients. So today I started some spring cleaning with help from the kids. We also dug out some things out of the craft closet like the finger paints.

Cal’s “severed finger painting”

Next up for the day is the resurrection of the “bored box”, a box of index cards with ideas of things to do and some more spring cleaning. Lucky ☘️ for us we are used to spending a lot of time at home and our lives have not had to change that much.
