Theater of the Sea

We decided to visit Theater of the Sea today. They have sea turtles, dolphins, sea lions and other ocean animals.

After seeing the sea lion show, we toured the park and found the sea turtles. They were huge! All of the animals are used to being hand-fed by staff so they are pretty curious and not afraid at all. The animals are all rescues that are not able to be released except for some that are born at the park.

This sea turtle had a life jacket on. Her name is Quasimodo and she was born with a spinal defect that effects her buoyancy, hence the life jacket.

They also had a dolphin show, parrot show and fish/reptile tour.

Then we waded with and fed the parrot fish. There were blue and rainbow parrot fish and a little beach here. We also saw nurse sharks (named this because they use suction to eat their food) and sting rays.

Nole was starting to burn and we left the sunscreen in the car. I suggested using a towel to cover up. This is the result:

Notice Nova’s noseeum bites. No mosquitos to be seen but the noseeums are relentless.

Then it was time for our dolphin encounters. Nova didn’t want to swim with dolphins so she and Nole did “meet a dolphin”.

Cal, Asa, Esme and I did “wade with a dolphin”. There was also a deep water option but I don’t think we were ready for that.

We were pretty exhausted after all of this and didn’t make it to any other planned stops but the things we missed are quick detours so we should be able to fit them in later in the week.
