A three hour cruise

We slept in and lazed about this morning. Then we did laundry, packed, and tidied up the rental car (we needed to vacuum some of the sand out of it or risked being charged).

Today we had reservations for the Spirit of Pennekamp, a glass bottom boat at 3:15. They recommend getting there an hour early. I wanted to stop for donuts but Nole was worried about time so we skipped it. For this reason I spent the first 30 minutes of the boat ride thinking about donuts, haha.

It takes about 55 minutes to boat to the reef. We saw a Great White Heron (the tour guide said it was a Great Blue Heron but I don’t think it was). We also saw Osprey and a bunch of sea birds on our way to the reef.

The ride out was pretty smooth although they do recommend Dramamine if you have a history of motion sickness. None of us have had more than an isolated incident or two of motion sickness so we went without.

When you get out to the reef (called Molasses Reef–the third largest barrier reef in the world), they let you sit on the ledge and look down into the viewing area.

At one point, Esme said her stomach hurt so we went outside to get fresh air. When we got back in she said she was tired, laid down, and fell asleep.

We saw barracuda, tangs, surgeonfish, grouper, parrot fish and several green sea turtles. Lots of coral species too like fire coral and mustard coral.

On the way back to shore, Asa had the front deck all to himself and had some fun playing there.

We went to Sundowners for dinner after we docked. We had to wait a little bit (always hard with kids) but it was worth the wait. We got to see the sky at sunset and there was live music which the girls really enjoyed.
