Everyday is a Winding Road

We traveled 500 miles today (there are a couple of song title opportunities there too!) which equaled about 7.5 hours of driving from home to Lexington, Kentucky.

I woke up on my own at 4:30am (travel jitters) and then woke the kids up. The plan worked for the most part since Cal, Asa and Esme slept in the car. Nova dozed for a bit but spent most of that time awake just looking out the window.

We drove for about 4 hours straight and then stopped at a rest stop for a bathroom break and some foot races in the picnic area. When we stop, I usually try to get the kids to run around a bit.

We stopped for lunch at McDonald’s with two hours of driving left. The last two hours were pretty hard for me and I almost had to stop again. I was just getting tired of driving. I pushed through though and we made it to the hotel in Lexington by about 3pm local time.

They were all good travelers today. No blood was shed in the car despite the close quarters.

We took a dip in the hotel pool. I brought in all of our swim stuff and the kids had a lot of fun with the flippers and snorkel masks.

There was no hot tub (which I definitely prefer to a pool unless it’s really warm) so I spent the time writing in our travel journal.

I decided to start it as of 2020 so I went back to our two trips last year–Florida and Minnesota. When we got back to the room I got the kids’ input.

We decided to chill here and eat food we brought from home tonight. The boys are requesting Kentucky fried chicken for dinner tomorrow night (not KFC though, we will try a local place).
