Saturday in the Park

Chattanooga, Tennessee

After staying up late last night, we needed a day to really sleep in.  This hotel doesn’t have complimentary breakfast which meant we didn’t need to get up in time for that either.  Nova and I were up before 9am but the others slept until about 10 when I finally insisted they get up.  We did get some free items from the coffee shop downstairs for being Honors members so we grabbed a few things there and supplemented that with things we brought from home (cereal and boxed shelf-stable milk that I love to buy for trips from the dollar store).

The farthest point of interest for us today is a 35 min walk so we decided to go on foot.  The boys played Pokemon Go while we walked.

We stopped at Community Pie for pizza to give us energy on our journey.

Then we walked toward a footbridge where we planned to cross the Tennessee River.

Before we got there, we spotted an aquarium and Cal loves aquariums so I told him we could go. The aquarium was actually sold out for today which was a good thing since it was pretty expensive. However there was a pretty cool water feature nearby. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was a flowing artificial river.

The kids were having a lot of fun and didn’t want to leave but I really wanted to check out Coolidge Park so we moved on. We crossed the Walnut Street Bridge which is a long wooden bridge for foot traffic and bikes. It was overcast and hot today. The clouds saved us from getting too hot as we walked around.

We got to Coolidge and took a ride on the carousel. It was only a dollar to ride it! The carousel is inside of a circular building.

When we finished our ride it started to rain. The kids had planned to play in the water feature at this park and it was only light rain so they played in it anyway and I sat under a tree.

At this point we were pretty tired and starting to get hungry. The boys’ phones has died earlier and they wanted to recharge them so they could play more Pokemon Go. We considered a bus ride or Uber ride back to the hotel but the boys clothes were wet since they didn’t bring swimsuits. Plus we wanted to stop and buy some soda and juice boxes so we ended up walking back and stopping at grocery store. We ate our snacks and are watching a movie now. We might go back out depending on the weather. It’s Saturday night and there are a few places where we can listen to live music for free.
