Jet lag can be a good thing

We are still kind of on Wisconsin time. We have been going to bed pretty early and getting up early. The good thing is we are making the best of the limited winter daylight hours.

We got up at about 6:30 this morning and had a quick cereal breakfast. We didn’t want to run the generator because that would be noisy and we were parked in a neighborhood. That meant no coffee for Nole but he didn’t seem to mind.

Nole drove all day today. We drove about 250 miles and it took us about 6 hours, all told. The nice thing was with the camper we only needed to make two stops. One was for gas about half way and one was to take in a scenic view (more on that later). It drizzled most of the day today. Nole spotted a rainbow!

As we got closer to the coast, everything got greener and greener. I had heard the coast could be 30 degrees colder than inland which was a bit worrying since it was only 40 degrees inland. Luckily the temperature was 50 degrees when we got to the coast. This was the first one for all of us to see the Pacific Ocean.

I watched a vlog about driving the Pacific Coast Highway in an RV. They suggested pulling off every now and then to let faster traffic pass. We stopped at the first spot large enough to take in the view.

Nole got a little nervous about the kids getting to close to the edge.

There were some flowers blooming. I noticed the white flower right away. I knew the name when I saw it and now I forgot it. Mom?

I also saw a pretty orange flower. It looks a little like crown vetch but that is usually purple.

Asa really liked this bush that was growing everywhere and he noticed the needles smelled really nice.

In fact the air smelled amazing! It smelled like flowers and pine. The drizzling rain let up for our stop and we got back in the motorhome and finished our drive to the campground. When we got to the campground, there was a super steep hill down with a sharp turn that had us a little nervous but we made it down safely. It also started really raining as we got to the campground. The stream here is pretty swollen and fast moving. The kids liked throwing things in to it and watching it float away.

We went on a short walk around the campground between raindrops. Notice the redwood trees!

Our site is right along the creek and is nice and big. It is also in a wide enough area to turn around easily when it’s time to leave tomorrow. We have electric and water tonight so we are truly “glamping”. They have a restaurant and it is open today (Christmas Day) so we decided to skip our dinner plan of tacos (or rather, delay it) and try the restaurant which has free wifi (there is no data here). It’s a walk from where we parked and it started raining hard again but we geared up and walked up. We are eating dinner now and I am going to try to use the free wifi to upload this post. Some of the pics may not come through right but I will try and fix it when we have reliable internet again.
