As viscous as this was

We were all out of bed by 9 this morning. I made big pancakes for breakfast. We had individual syrup cups I bought a long time ago and the syrup had lost some of its moisture and was thicker than usual. Cal was very offended by this syrup and he made a dramatic speech about how unsuitable the syrup was. Nole and I joined in the debate arguing it tasted the same and actually had some positive properties, like not soaking into the pancake. Asa quietly went to the fridge and got butter to put on his pancake as a substitute for this sub-par syrup. The girls ate their pancakes dry as is their usual habit.

In the process of all of this we composed a poem.

As viscous as this was,

Is it delicious or suspicious?

Either way, not nutritious

But it likely won’t kill us

~The Martin Family

We packed up after breakfast. It took us about an hour all-told. Then we headed for the Canadian border. While we drove I did our entry paperwork online. We made good time with very little traffic through the Detroit metro area and crossed into Canada without any issue.

We stopped for gas in Canada which cost about $6/gallon. We also got lunch at the gas station restaurant.

Liquor sold at a fast food restaurant?
Cal got this ridiculous burger with an unfortunate name.
Cal also tried poutine (fries topped with cheese curds and gravy) but didn’t like it.

We made it to our campground outside of Toronto. We have a spot right by the pool and the playground. Unfortunately the pool is closed this week for maintenance.

We put the awning out because it was super hot when we got here. We figured it out without directions which was great. With the pool closed, I filled one of our bins with water for the girls to play in.

We had sandwiches for dinner since we had a big lunch. And then kids came from out of the woodwork to play on the playground after dinner. Our kids joined them, even Cal and Asa.

We consulted the weather report and tomorrow looks like the sunniest day this week. I grabbed some travel brochures from the campground lobby but most of the things in the brochures are pretty expensive and we just spent a lot on our two days at Ford. Instead I googled “cheap things to do with kids in Toronto” and made a short list of things we might like to do and see. We also plan to go to Niagara Falls this week. We are here a total of 4 nights so we have plenty of time to explore.
