Anne of Green Gables / PEI

Today we visited the Anne of Green Gables Heritage Site. We listened to the entire (8.5 hour) audiobook over our last 3 city-to-city drives. Asa really got into it. We had listened to it before when Cal was about 8 and Asa was 5 but they didn’t remember it. Anne is a fictional character (a fact I had to keep reminding Nova of today!) but they built this house as the author described it in her book. Above is a Lego version of the house.

Path to The Haunted Wood (nothing scary about it by the way).
Girls acting scared in The Haunted Wood. In the story, Anne imagines there are all sorts of creepy figures in the wood.
In front of The Snow Queen. Anne names the tree outside of her window that because it has white flowers in spring.
Lover’s Lane. The author used Lover’s Lane in several of her books and poems. She based it on a real place and took hundreds of pictures of it in her life.

We finally had to try a Beaver Tail. We also shared a raspberry cordial (another reference to the book). The entrance fee was $6 Canadian TOTAL. The kids were all free. Best priced attraction I’ve ever been to.

Then we drove over to Oceanview Lookoff. It was kind of foggy today but it burned off pretty quick inland. At the Lookoff you could feel the cool mist blowing off the gulf onto you. The red soil is from high iron deposits. It made it feel like we were walking on Mars!

Asa found snails.
We saw this woman at Green Gables and then again at the Lookoff. We asked her if she would mind taking a picture with the girls since she was dressed old fashioned.

The tide pools had hundreds of little shrimp in them.

Then we stopped at the grocery store which was called Tourist Mart. I figured it would be overpriced but the prices were good so we got a few days worth of groceries. They sold individual packets of condiments which I thought was pretty clever. They also sold fruit in packages of 3 rather than larger ones. I wish there were tourist marts in other places.

We went back to the camper, put away the groceries and ate leftovers for lunch. Then the girls went to the playground and the boys and I went to the beach.

I got out my good camera that Nole got me for my birthday and put on the telephoto (zoom) lens. It’s perfect for taking stealth pictures of teenagers. As I was walking towards Cal, I saw this osprey catching a fish! Good thing I had that lens on!

Here are some other pictures I took with the Canon.
