Saint John, New Brunswick

We left Nova Scotia around 9:30am. We started listening to a new book now that we finished Anne of Green Gables. I had been reading chapters of Fablehaven to the girls. We listened to the audiobook up until the part where I stopped reading while we drove today.

Our plan was to go straight to our new Boondockers Welcome hosts home. We got there about 2:30 pm and after setting up I made a dinner of BLTs. There was some debate as to whether it was lunch or dinner but I said it was definitely dinner since I wasn’t cooking another meal after it.

After lunch we went to a park to play.

Next to the playground was a stable. Their website said the public was welcome. I asked the kids if they wanted to come see them with me. The older three said maybe later since they were in the middle of a game of Grounder (don’t ask me about this game, I have no idea how to play). Nova was up for it though and we went together.

When Nova and I were about to head back, Esme and Asa showed up saying Cal hurt his foot and needed my help. Esme and Asa stayed to look at the horses and I went to check on Cal. He said he had jumped off the playground and rolled his ankle. The side of his foot was a little swollen and sore. He hobbled back to the car to rest and the other kids played a little more. Then we went to Walmart to get some supplies for the patient. He took some ibuprofen and when we got back to the campsite, I put some icy hot on and wrapped it in an ace bandage. He is walking on it so I think it is not a major injury.

After Walmart we passed a Toys R Us. On a whim, I thought it would be fun to check it out. I have not been letting the kids buy any non-consumables so far. I did tell Nova at some point I would let her buy something so I let each kid spend some of their own money here. Rules: there was a price limit and it couldn’t be too big. Asa picked out a Lego set and the girls picked out LOL dolls. Cal is saving his money and didn’t buy anything.

This set looked really cool.

Since there are no more Toys R Us by us, the kids loved this experience. The girls said they would bring their kids back here one day, haha.

Back at the boondocks site, Asa went on a bike ride and all the kids played with the new toys. Cal talked with friends. Asa and I decided to have a fire.

Nole joins us again tomorrow. He had trouble with cancelled flights when he left us in Ottawa and air travel has been less than reliable lately. At least if he gets rerouted tomorrow, we could probably pick him up at a different airport!
