Overnight there was a loud thunderstorm. Some of us got up to check the radar and chat for a bit. It looked like rain all day when we went back to sleep. It stopped raining here around 8am. The day had cleared up a bit on the forecast. Now it looked like we would be rain-free until 4pm. Some wanted to go into Boston and some wanted to stay at the campsite. We ended up deciding that Boston could wait until tomorrow and we would have a “down day” today, as Nova calls them.

We took our time waking up with some getting out of bed after 9. Then I got my book out. I helped the kids set up hammocks and put our towels out on the line while the rain takes a break.

There was time spent on phones and other devices. Cal and Esme played games on Cal’s laptop while Asa and Nova played around our campsite.

Cal and I made lunch — he made Ramen for Esme and himself and I made spaghetti with meatballs for everyone else. Nole and Asa went on a 7.5 mile bike ride on one of the many paths in the state park, all of which are bike-friendly. Nole also spent some time in “hammock city” with the kids who had invented games to play in the hammocks and wanted to be swung.

Then Cal, Nova and I went to the tether ball court which is pretty much the only entertainment available off the campsites. Unfortunately there isn’t a playground or a pool. The girls are counting down the days to our next RV “resort” in Pennsylvania, where there will be both playgrounds AND a pool!

Nova and Esme invented a game yesterday with the tether ball called ring-around-the-rosie where you swing the tether ball and then run from it while staying on the court. Nova made Cal and me play that game but she almost always won since she is so much smaller than us! Cal and I played the traditional tether ball game and he won most of those games. That ball was hard as a rock and I was scared to hit it most of the time, especially after I got my fingers jammed by it.

Asa and I made teriyaki chicken for dinner. After dinner, Nole, Asa and I took a campground walk. When we got back to the camper we played some board games and had ice cream. The rain didn’t come until about 7pm and was pretty unremarkable and short-lived. I finished one book and started another so it was a pretty successful day for me.
