Today is Asa’s birthday. With his summer birthday, a lot of his birthdays fall when we are not at home. This year I made sure that even if we weren’t at home, he could at least have time with his friends.
First, Nova, Katy and I slept in. We got up around 10 and I made pancakes for breakfast. We got to watch a few big groups of people go in the river at the boat launch we are camping at. There were kayakers, canoers and tubers. Katy spread BOTH sides of her pancake with Nutella which was pretty genius.

The little girls and I went to Target to get a couple of gifts for Asa. We got him a big floaty (pictured below) and some of his favorite snacks. Melissa’s neighbor let us use their pool since they are out of town this week. It is a really great pool was an awesome place to host an all day pool party.

Melissa and I even went in and we both took a trip down the slide!

We had lots of amazing snacks and made a lunch out of them. Cal coated a gummy bear in spicy Doritos seasoning which was an interesting combination.

The kids made up tons of games and challenges.

After a good 4 hours at the pool we went back to Melissa’s house to make dinner. We made some of Asa’s favorites in honor of the day.

Some of us played a new board game.

And of course we had cake!

Then it was time to head back to the pool for a glow party. The neighbors have two outdoor cats. This one’s name is Nubby due to a short tail. Mary is cat-sitting for them while the owners are out of town.

As soon as it was dark, we brought out the glow stuff. Despite warnings, a few glow necklaces were broken open. Luckily Melissa bought about 100 of them so there were plenty of extras.

We called it quits at the pool at about 10pm and tonight I took Esme and Lily back to the camper with me for a sleepover while the rest of the kids slept at Melissa’s. There was varying success with sunscreen today, even though we reapplied so some of the kids are pretty red. We will see how everyone feels tomorrow!
