Our night at Cracker Barrel went well. We went to sleep almost immediately and I woke everyone up around 7. We had an okay breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Nole and I enjoyed our food and the girls ate theirs pretty well. Asa’s milk was spoiled which kind of set a bad tone for the meal though!
Packing up the camper was easy because we didn’t totally unpack yesterday. We were on the road to the main attraction today, Meow Wolf, by 8:45am. We were a little worried about finding parking for the car+camper but ended up finding a perfect spot in the Meow Wolf parking spot. Due to finding the spot so easily, we had some time to spare before our 10:40 entry time so we looked at art in the parking area.

The Yatzecks arrived and we got in line.

Now if you’re been to a Meow Wolf before, you’ll know what it is like. For everyone else I will try and describe it. It is kind of a psychedelic, otherworldly interactive exhibit. There are puzzles to solve and things to discover similar to an escape room. Some say this is the future of modern art as the elements inside are all artistically made. Everything can be touched and there isn’t a right way or right order to do things in–instead you wander around trying things until it starts to make sense. You are given clues a little at a time. It’s not difficult to figure out but it takes time and patience.
We split up into smaller groups because a group of 12 people together was never going to work. I was with Joey and Asa, Nole with Cal, Melissa with Nova and Katy and Joe with Mary, Lily and Esme. Eventually, Lily and Esme joined Melissa’s group too. I’m telling you all this to explain why almost all of my pictures are of Joey and Asa.

Four and a half hours later, three groups had completed the main quest and the other was Melissa who had the youngest kids. The youngest ones loved it even though they weren’t really working on collecting clues but just enjoying the hands on stuff. That’s kind of the beauty of this place. You can just walk around and look at the art, you can focus on the mystery, or you can enjoy touching things and finding little hidden secrets.
Before we left, Mary unlocked a wormhole (kind of a side-quest–there were a bunch of those too).

We didn’t really eat lunch, just had some snacks. The RV resort where we will stay for the next few nights was about an hour away. We didn’t account for traffic though so it was more like 2hrs which was a bummer.
It was raining on arrival at the campground when we arrived. The old adage goes, “Sorry for what I said when we were backing the camper” and it is doubly so in the rain. We are all still friends and we got the camper set up, a DIY dinner spread laid out, and hot cocoa and hot chai all around.
Total miles today: 230
