Moab, Utah….still

Esme and Lily slept in the Yatzecks rooftop tent last night oblivious to the crazy gusts of wind that lasted several hours starting around bedtime. The tent that was set up on the ground collapsed overnight. Luckily, no one was sleeping there.

We were getting packed up to leave Moab when I noticed a crack in our camper frame.

It was about 7am at that time and Nole and I started calling local businesses that might offer welding. In the end, we decided to pack up the camper and drive it into town to see who could help us. We said heartfelt goodbyes to the Yatzecks who head to Grand Canyon today. Joey gave Asa this (pumice?) rock he has been carrying around as a parting gift. They made an agreement that Asa would throw it in the Grand Canyon when we go there.

It seemed like there were only 2 welders in town. The guy at Moab Metal Works and Curt at Curt’s Custom Welding. Curt was down a guy and couldn’t get us in. The guys at MMW were out on a job but they could help us at 9am tomorrow. With this news we took the camper back to the old campground, picked a new site and made some plans for the day.
First stop lunch at McDonald’s. We wanted the Grimace Birthday Meal but they were all out of purple shake mix. Sad. We had wanted to visit the local Rock Shop but thought we ran out of time. Now that we are staying another night, we dropped in!

Then we made a quick stop at a drug store for sunscreen and snacks. Finally we went back to the pool we went to yesterday and stayed there for 3+ hours.

Them we stopped at the grocery store to get food for dinner and went home to make said dinner. It was heat and eat pulled pork on buns. Delish! The campground owner’s dogs paid us a visit which the kids loved. Prince is the one with the short haircut. The other one is Princess Kate.

We tried not to unpack the camper too much to make an easy getaway tomorrow. Also this somewhat intoxicated dude at the campground swears his friend who owns a business right down the road can fix our camper for free in the morning. We plan to go there early tomorrow and see what we can see. If it doesn’t work out, we have our appointment at 9am.
