Last night we went out with a blacklight I brought from home to look for scorpions. The visitor center staff at the campground told us to check the Nature Trail. We were not disappointed. Cal and Asa lead the way and did most of the searching. Nole brought up the rear with a regular flashlight and found some beetles. We even saw a beetle and scorpion together. The girls stayed back–bugs are not their cup of tea.
The scorpions in this area are called desert hairy scorpions which are not very dangerous though they can sting if they feel threatened. Their venom is not very powerful.

On the way back to the camper Nole spotted a grey fox running along the road with some kind of rodent in its mouth. We didn’t get a picture but here is one from the National Parks website.
