Our good friends Mike and Jennifer came for a visit to celebrate their engagement with us. We are soooo excited for them!
Tonight we planned a little welcome surprise. We recently found out about an interactive art exhibit in Milwaukee called Deep Lake Future and we all really wanted to check it out. Since Mike is an accomplished graphic arts artist, we thought he and Jenny would really enjoy it.

This installation was a lot like Meow Wolf but on a much smaller scale. We found out when we were there that the producer of Deep Lake Future was inspired by places like Meow Wolf and that this exhibit was a test run for a bigger project –one they are currently designing in a warehouse.
We got to the studio that is hosting this exhibit and had to wait a while to go inside. In the meantime we got to look at the Small Works Gallery. Mike and Jenny still did not know what the surprise was!

Finally it was our turn to enter DLF. After a short intro video, we got to explore this underwater themed interactive exhibit. The premise is that it is the future and the climate has changed and Milwaukee is under water.

Mike took the next four pictures.

It was pretty hot in there and Mike and Jennifer still hadn’t eaten dinner so we decided to go to Purple Door for ice cream. The kids went to Purple Door once with Grandma and wanted to go back some day. Lucky for them it was really close to the art studio! They have unusual flavors like Nutella, Lemon Cardamom, Brandy Old Fashioned, Trail Mix, Whiskey, and Spicy Chocolate. They have some regular flavors too. Some of us were more adventurous than others. I decided to get a mini ice cream flight so I got 4 flavors.

We got home and Jenny told us how she and Mike got engaged. Then she asked to look at our wedding pictures so we dug those out. We found the DVD that we put a photo slideshow on that played at our reception. Nova especially liked watching that and Nole and I reminisced about how hard it was to time that and how we had bought a scanner and a video editing program just to make that DVD!
