I have been wanting to do a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg with my mom for a while but the pandemic and other things delayed us. When our plan materialized this year and it included taking Esme and Nova, I knew I HAD to make them curtain clothes like Maria made for the children.

I found a pattern, ordered green damask fabric, and then did nothing for about 3 months. As the clock was ticking down to the trip, I started work on the dresses about a week ago.

Nova’s dress, which I was basing on Brigitta’s in the movie, came together slowly but easily.

She helped me pick out the trim which she wanted lots of. The pattern was for an “overskirt” but I made it with an apron instead.

I started Esme’s next and thinking I knew everything, didn’t read the directions very closely. Her dress was based on Louisa’s.
Well I sewed up the sides of the bodice before doing the arm holes but since it didn’t have sleeves I should have done the armholes first. In any case, I had already trimmed the seams and had to start over. The second time around, I made sure to follow all directions and it came out beautifully.

They both look way better on the girls but I will make you wait for the Salzburg posts in about 3 weeks.
