The hills are alive

This morning as we left the apartment, we were greeted by an impromptu flea market.  A little old lady and her husband set up these vintage items in the outdoor seating area of the bar downstairs.   We each found some treasures.  I bought a 1950s floral headband for each of the girls and we each got some vintage jewelry.  My mom also got a table cloth.

It was another hot one today.  89 degrees.  We were already enjoying a misting station before 10am.

Because rain is expected tomorrow, we swapped today and tomorrow on the itinerary.  Today we went to an open air museum very similar to Old World Wisconsin.

I was impressed by the size of these houses!  At OWW, most of the houses are one story tall and few have more than 2 bedrooms. Look at this monster!  It had at least 4 bedrooms!

We saw several pear trees that were being grown extremely close to a building causing them to grow in a very 2D way.  It reminded me of a folk art drawing of a tree.

We walked through a few homes then found the playground which was very creatively designed and kept the girls’ attention for a long time.

There was even a bowling game that the girls got to try.

It was getting hot and rather than walk around the grounds more, we took the little railway around the rest of the property and then caught the bus to our next stop, the cable cars.

If I had planned better, we would have visited the cable cars yesterday since it was very near Hellbrunn and the zoo.  We had to ride the bus about 30 in from the open air museum to city center, then another 30 min out to the cable car station.   We found a “kawaii” shop that the girls just had to check out where we transferred buses.  Both girls took a little nap on the bus so we were all refreshed and ready for our next adventure.

We all close our eyes when we take pictures so here I asked them to make sure their eyes were open.  After this, I decided we should just accept that our eyes will be closed in most pictures.

Nova napping…

Found this interesting ice cream treat at the little restaurant at the top cable car station.

We made it to the top and it was beautiful!

We did some “The hills are alive” twirls on the mountain top.

We had plenty of space on the way up but our car was full on the way down the mountain.  And by full I mean everyone on board was physically touching at least 4 other people at any given moment.

We stopped to cool off in a fountain and got an ice cream (two scoops each!) before going to the apartment for showers and fresh clothes that were plastered to our bodies with sweat.

After a video chat with Nole, we walked to Augustiner Beer Garden.

We absolutely destroyed the food we bought.  The girls are almost an entire chicken on their own.

Then we walked back to the apartment, taking the long way and stopping at a playground.

(I’m not sure why this video recorded in slow-mo…)
