As I said yesterday, we scrapped some other tentative plans to spend another day exploring near our apartment. We started the day with pancakes which I have been making daily. Our Airbnb doesn’t have a frying pan though so I’ve been making them in a medium saucepan. Also we could not find pancakes mix so I make them from scratch (risky business with picky eaters) and there was no pancake syrup at the store either so we eat them plain, with Nutella or with granulated sugar on top.

After breakfast , we had about a half hour left on the 72 hour Salzburg Card so we hurried over to the nature museum. It totally gave me Milwaukee Public Museum vibes. Esme said it reminded her of the museum in Animal Crossing.

The exhibit below shows “sky burial” where in parts of Central Asia where the soil is too hard for burial, the prepared bodies were “taken away” by the vultures.

This sea urchin looked like it had eyes almost like a soot sprite from a Studio Ghibli movie.

Axolotl, Esme’s favorite.

Rocks and minerals

Asbestos. It was “furry”.

Shells

Birds. The birds were numbers and you could use a key to see what the names were. I could pick out a few from my experience playing Wingspan.

We left before seeing the whole museum. There was a technology part we didn’t get to because we were hungry and thirsty. We went to the grocery store to get lunch supplies and went back to the apartment and had lunch. Here the girls are in front of the apartment.

I got this cheese platter.

Nova got Spezi to try and compare to Mezzo Mix. Both are cola mixed with orange soda.

After a rest, we went out for ice cream and then spent some of the last of our euros on a horse and carriage ride.

We saw Tabak-Trafik which I think is the same one shown during the carriage ride in the film.

Mom had the idea of getting a lock for the bridge so we picked one up, wrote our names on it and put it on the pedestrian bridge.

We walked to Augustiner Beer Garden again tonight since the chicken was so good the other night. We saw several buses and street cars squeeze through this bridge on our way. It’s a tight fit!

We took a back way to Augustiner but it’s debatable whether it was shorter or not. It was a steep climb.

Mom noticed the chairs all had her initials, KM.

We found out that Stammtisch means “regular’s table” and is like a reserved spot for weekly or monthly gatherings.

Then Mom showed us how you get free water here. Free water is a rare thing in Europe!

Augustiner is cash only and after dinner, we had spent our euros down to less than 6€. We need to take the bus tomorrow to the train station so I walked to a ticket machine to buy them with a credit card.

We packed and organized tonight so we just have the last minute things to pack up tomorrow. Now that the end of our trip is near, we are getting anxious to get back home. We have a few things we need to buy or do before we leave though so I’m glad we have two more nights in Frankfurt. Plus we are looking forward to seeing Candace, Stephan, Ruby and Jasper again before we go.
