An Asa in the hole

It was overcast but not raining this morning so Nova wanted to go on that kayak ride. She brought her net, this time with a float attached, and we did a slow and shallow float where she caught things in her net and declared most of them disgusting and threw them back.  We saw lots of conch, conch eggs, gelatinous blobs called slaps, scallops, and more.  She ended up collecting a few mini empty scallops to make earrings out of later.

I went online and requested our White House and US Capitol tours for our D.C. visit in June.  Then we packed up all the beach stuff and went to the beach near our campground.  Swimming is not allowed from our site and the beach is about a 10 minute drive.  We had a fun time boogie boarding and wading in the ocean.  The kids played in the sand a lot and put a lot of time into digging a very big hole.  At one point the park rangers came by and I thought they were going to put a stop to it but they gave the thumbs up.

Asa decided he wanted to be buried in the hole.

The above video is super short.  The others are longer.  Feel free to skip them if you’re short on time 😉

We had lunch, showered off all that sand and rested before going making a drive to Clearwater Beach.  Nole and I went to Clearwater for our belated 15 year anniversary and it was fun to go back and show the kids some of our favorite spots.

We had dinner at Frenchy’s, walked along the beach, and went to Sunset at Pier 60.  At dinner, Nova had shrimp, Esme had chicken tenders, the guys all had Frenchy’s World Famous Grouper Sandwiches and I had crab fries.  The guys also shared an order of crab fries as an appetizer.

We let the girls choose between henna and hair wraps/braiding and both chose henna.  I decided to get one too.  If I ever decide I don’t want to be a nurse anymore maybe I’ll do henna on a boardwalk somewhere as it seems to be pretty profitable with minimal supply cost.
