It lightly rained all night but there was a break when we woke up this morning. We had contemplated going a little bit out of the way to see a bird refuge on the way to Niagara but weren’t too sure, with the rainy day that was expected. When we checked the weather this morning we thought there would be a break from the rain for a while and decided to stop.
The way to the refuge took us off the beaten path and along the way we passed under this 10’6″ bridge. I wasn’t sure of the height of the trailer but I went right through the center and we fit. Phew. The picture is from Google Maps. Now we know the camper is under 10’6″!

We got the Erie National Wildlife Refuge at about noon and ate lunch in the camper. The kids worked on a birder badge workbook and were excited to get a real embroidered patch for completing it!

Melissa, Joe, Joey and I went on a walk through the sanctuary. I used the Merlin bird identification app to identify the birds we were hearing.

Melissa spent most of the walk taking pictures of mushrooms.

Here are some other cool pictures I took on our walk.

We left the Refuge without much data but eventually got enough to get a map going. This place was really in the middle of nowhere. On the way back to civilization, we passed MANY dirt roads and I was thankful each time that Google Maps did not direct me down any with the camper!
When we got to Niagara, it was raining which meant setting up in the rain. Once that was done, we got out umbrellas and went to check out Lake Erie because this campground is right on the lake!

The waves got my shoes wet when I got a bit too close. I’d like to go back to the beach later and look for cool rocks.
Back at the camper I made spaghetti for dinner which we devoured. There were several people who remarked how good it tasted. I guess we just needed comfort food after being out in the rain!
Esme, Nova and Katy played out in the rain then showers and laundry then to bed. Rain is expected throughout the day tomorrow.
and low and behold, we just had a magnolia warbler in our bush in the front yard🥰
