Some of us are enjoying this experience more than others. The kids, while they’ve kept themselves entertained, are a bit bored here. This morning we walked to the bog to look for the moose and the kids came along. Nova said, “the forest is our prison” on that walk.
The kids played the board game they made a bunch of times today.

Here is the recap for the day.
Early morning moose watch – cancelled due to rain
Mid morning moose watch – no moose but Melissa and I set up chairs and sat out there for a while reading
Late morning moose watch – no moose
Then we worked on yesterday’s blog by the shore where we get a teensie bit of data on our phones. I also practiced my wildlife photography for later moose photos.

Lunchtime moose watch (Joe and I made lunch while Lily, Joey and Melissa walked to the bog) – yes moose! (of course I missed it)

After lunch moose watch – no moose, LOTS of mosquitoes. We planned to sit there and read again but left because of the bugs. The kids were playing round 3 of the board game and then they started on their Junior Ranger Badge booklets for Lily Bay.

Later afternoon moose watch – I went out at 3:30, prepared with bug spray, Thermacell repellant, and mosquito net.

Melissa joined me around 4:15 and we chatted quietly while waiting. We also saw a juvenile Bald Eagle.

But then…

Melissa spotted the moose around 4:50 — YES MOOSE! — and we watched her for over 45 minutes while she…
Munched water plants:

Watched us watch her:

Drooled:

Blew bubbles in the water:

And waded in the bog:

We celebrated, then made dinner and ate s’mores. Some of the kids walked to the bog. Esme went twice today and didn’t see a moose, Nova chose not to go saying she has no desire to see a moose.
We watched the sunset and listened to the peepers and loons on Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in New England.
I have some really cool moose videos but the limited data we have here won’t let me upload them. I’ll do a separate post with the videos tomorrow.
