Give me your tired, your “over it”, your huddled masses

We had a relaxing morning.  We celebrated Father’s Day a day late because we were so busy yesterday.  I made pancakes and Nole unwrapped his gifts.  Asa left with Joe, Joey and Lily to go to Six Flags Great Adventure.

The rest of us did laundry, took showers, napped and then had a light lunch.  Nole and I then headed to NYC with Cal, Esme and Nova.  Here was our plan for today:

So off went on public transport, leaving the station right around 1pm.

We got to the theater for the show we had 2 tickets for, “Six”, hoping to get 2 more using student rush.

No such luck with the student rush but they did have “partially obstructed view” seats we could purchase and they said our two lottery tickets could be put in the same spot and we would have our own box!  Very fancy.

We did some shopping.  Hershey’s Store, Nintendo Store, FAO Schwartz, Old Navy, GAP, Line Friends NY, and the Disney Store.

Because we went to a bunch of stores, we didn’t have time for carousels today.  We plan to fit those in tomorrow’s schedule.

We rested near Rockefeller Center, got a slice of pizza each, and a snack at McDonald’s along the way.  We split up with Cal who headed to his video game contest while Nole and I took the girls to see Six.

Brad Pitt was in Times Square today promoting his new movie F1.  Nova saw this ad and thought it said “Brad Pitt, The Movie” which made us laugh.

We hung around a little while to see if we could see him arrive (indirectly on a screen).  We were moving on without seeing him when the crowd started getting excited behind us.  I lifted Nova up on my shoulders and she saw a guy in a suit that might have been him…”No, it WAS him!” we told her because it’s more fun to believe she really saw Brad Pitt (even though neither she or Esme know who Brad Pitt was).

It felt good to sit down at the theater and the box was really nice!  A private balcony, just for us and the view was just fine.

We had a great time and hung around the stage door to wait for the cast to exit and sign autographs.

Meanwhile, Asa and the Yatzecks checked out the Empire State Building lobby.

We met at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for dinner except for Cal because he went to the finals in his competition.  He won 2nd place!

It was about 11pm by the time we finished dinner and some did not have it in them to stay for the Midnight Moment, an art display that is coordinated across all of the Times Square billboards at 11:57pm.  It had started to rain and most of us were tired of Time Square at this point.  I really wanted to stay at by the time those who wanted to leave were ready we were less than 20 minutes from the show.

In the end we all decided to stay.  Everyone huddled together and at least half looked pretty miserable.  It wasn’t the most exciting “display” either.  I was expecting more variety.  But we saw it, and then headed back to the campground.  Where the art display was lacking variety, the clientele on the subway and the pedestrians on the streets after 11pm had variety in abundance.  We got back about 1am and fell into our beds again.
