A familiar face in a new place

We left the Annemasse area for Lyon today but not before trying some candy with our host family, playing more baby foot and getting a haircut for Esme. We are very thankful to our host families, Hélène and Thierry included, for making us feel so welcome.

Esme wanted her bangs cut. It was an experience because I didn’t understand everything the hairdresser said but Esme is happy and she only charged us 4€.

Then we were on the road to Lyon (or more precisely, 20 minutes north of Lyon in Genay). Our Airbnb host is very nice. This is another private room in a host’s home and so far we really like it. She has two Jack Russell terriers who are super cute, chickens, fish and cats. There is a pool which she says we can use tomorrow.

After checking in at the Airbnb we drove to the edge of Lyon and left the car at a parking lot at the railway station for the subway. We took the subway into downtown and found a park and waited for Marie, who stayed with us two summers ago as a student.

The boys spotted this building and were calling it Stark Tower.

Everyone was excited to see Marie again. We went for a walk to a Subway station and then checked out this stone that was left on top of this hill millions of years ago and still sits where nature left it. It is in the Croix-Rousse neighborhood, near where she lives.

Marie and Nova getting reacquainted.

We went to a crêpe restaurant for dinner. I didn’t order anything having learned my lesson from past restaurant experiences (the kids order and it’s not what they expect and they don’t eat it). I was right and ended up eating Cal’s crêpe which was cheese, mushroom and bacon. Yum!

View of Lyon from our walk.

Some cool street art we saw on our way to dinner.

Nova playing “what’s your favorite” with Marie.

Cal’s crêpe. That was a savory whipped cream on top.

We took the bus and the subway back to our car and then drove back to the Airbnb in time to video chat with Nole before bed.

The narrow spiral staircase that leads to our loft here.
