Cal wanted a lower maintenance haircut. His long hair got pretty snarled everyday and he was tired of brushing it.

Meanwhile, it was also time for him to get braces. His upper jaw is pretty wide and his upper and lower teeth don’t match up well when he bites (the dentist said he only had 3 or 4 points of contact when he bites down).
On December 26 we went to our dentist (he also does orthodontics) and Cal had his braces put on.

Even though the dentist recommended eating something soft, Cal still wanted to go Panda Express. After lunch we went for his haircut.
I really wanted to save his hair to donate but the hairdresser kind of shrugged it off. It seemed like a shame to waste it but Cal didn’t seem to care. Below is the final result.

It’s been 5 days and Cal is pretty used to the braces. The rest of us are still getting used to his new look. He looks older to me and a couple of times I’ve gotten freaked out thinking he was some stranger in the house.
Happy New Year, friends! Don’t be afraid of change. Here’s to growing and learning in 2020!
