Our last resort

Yesterday after we returned to the campground, we decided to go for a swim in the waterfall. Even Esme and I got in this time.

Asa and Esme went looking for fish in the calmer waters too. No luck though.

After we were thoroughly waterlogged, we went back to the campsite. Nole and the kids played pickle in the middle and catch.

Nole started a bonfire and we roasted marshmallows and used the Aero bar s’mores kit We bought in Canada. We used some of those packets that change the fire’s color for fun too.

We checked out a cool beetle we found on our camper.

Then Nole and I packed up as much as we could before it got dark to make leaving easier in the morning.

Nole and I got up before 4am. We woke the kids up and loaded up the camper. Nole had a 7am flight home. We towed the camper to the airport but it was eerily quiet and small. After double checking the flight details we realized we were at the wrong airport. The good news was the right airport was only 20 minutes away and Nole had time to spare. His first flight was delayed but yay!, no other disruptions and he made it back to Milwaukee safely.

Before leaving the airport, I plugged in our destination in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Google wanted me to essentially go via New York City AND Philadelphia. It was about 5:30 am and I was sure their “best route” would become the “worst route” once traffic hit. I chose the longer route that avoided any major cities and seemed like a safer bet.

My suggested route in yellow and Google’s in red.

Google had other plans. Before I realized what had happened I was taking the path that went through New York and turning back just didn’t make sense anymore.

Slow downs and more rerouting happened and I ended up on some kind of “parkway” highway that took me through Manhattan and the Bronx before spitting me out on the New Jersey Turnpike which cost over $50 in tolls! Not to mention the parkway had all sorts of low bridges, the lowest was 9’7″ and I made it through in one piece. There were school buses going under them which gave me confidence.

With all the traffic and rerouting it took us an extra hour to get to Lancaster. I was exhausted when we got here after being up so early but I got a second wind and set up the camper with the kids.

This is a resort style campground with all the amenities and the kids love it here. They’ve already been to the game room, won tickets and turned them in for little prizes, played on the playground for hours and been to the pool twice. I did four loads of laundry (washers and dryers are only $1.25 each!) and flushed the waste water tanks a bunch since we have sewer at this site.

There are lots of kids here which is nice and there is lots to do in the surrounding area. The kids and I already have a full day planned for tomorrow!
