Los Pollos Hermanos

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Today was a choose your own adventure morning. We had some errands to run and I wanted to stop and see Petroglyphs National Monument. Esme and Asa wanted to join me and Cal decided to come too since he was already awake.

Esme earned a Junior Ranger badge and the ranger gave her a badge and a patch! Then we went on a short walk to see the McCaw. One unique petroglyph here was McCaw parrots. The tribes around here had parrots that they traded from Central and South America.

Some other cool things we saw there…

This is an example of a traditional oven.

I had dropped my phone at the Grand Canyon and cracked the screen. Today I got it repaired. We also did laundry and made a Walmart run. Some of us REALLY wanted Panera for lunch but we already had plans to go out for dinner so we bought supplies for fancy salads and sandwiches at Walmart and even found a Panera mac and cheese for Cal. Asa made a big veggie stir fry for himself for lunch. He is thinking about trying an eating contest tomorrow (more on that tomorrow) so he was trying to do some prep today to get his body ready.

My salad. May I say even better than Panera??

We tried to stay cool and even tried setting up a fan with a damp towel over it to try and do some cooling by evaporation. It was over 100 degrees today again.

Then we went to Old Town Albuquerque to look around. They have lots of shops there. Our favorites were a board game shop, a puzzle shop and the Breaking Bad shop. Breaking Bad takes place and was filmed in Albuquerque.

There was a Breaking Bad museum in the back of the store.

Esme was complaining of a sore throat so she and I went across the street to Walgreens and bought Tylenol. We also got a jug of lemonade and some cups. We all enjoyed some lemonade to cool us off on this hot day. It was kind of overcast today which helped keep us from melting.

It got really windy and rained about 12 raindrops on us.

We then drove to the convention center to see a statue of the characters from Breaking Bad. There was a play fountain and playground across the street that we played at. The guys went to check out the statue but there was an an event at the center tonight and they couldn’t get too close.

Asa found a praying mantis on the playground.

The last stop on our Breaking Bad tour was Los Pollos Hermanos which was a fictional restaurant on the show. It was filmed at the restaurant that is now a Twisters.

None of us are obsessed with the show or anything. Cal and I have never seen it, Nole has and Asa have watched it and enjoy the show. We didn’t have a firm plan for today and this seemed to be just as good a plan as any and we all enjoyed seeing the different places.
